 Oscar Valdez vs Adam Lopez
 10 Round Super-featherweight Contest
 Saturday 30th November 2019
 The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas, Nevada
 Top Rank

Former WBO world featherweight champion Oscar Valdez's scheduled bout with Andres Gutierrez was cancelled when Gutierrez failed to make the 130lb super-featherweight limit. The fact that he came in at 141lbs was deemed totally unacceptable by all those involved. The bout had been elevated to eliminator status by the WBC and president Mauricio Sulaiman insisted that an inquiry would take place to find out all the facts involved in Gutierrez's weight-making tactics which he believed were somewhat suspicious.

Valdez, who has completed a 3-month training camp was dejected when he thought that he would not be fighting but Top Rank his promoters pulled Adam Lopez from his scheduled bout on the card with Luis Coria and promoted him to face Valdez. The bout will still be a WBC eliminator.

Valdez who now makes his home in West Covina, California was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico and had a very successful amateur career which included becoming the first Mexican to win an amateur world championship medal when he won bronze in Milan, Italy in 2009. He represented Mexico at the 2012 London Olympics, losing in the third round to Ireland's John Joe Nevin.

Valdez has a perfect pro record with 26 wins, no losses or draws and with 20 wins coming by way of knockout. He won the vacant WBO 126lb crown in July 2016 with a 2nd round Tko of Argentina's Matias Carlos Adrian Rueda, going on to defend the title 6 times, the most notable of which was his unanimous decision win over former WBA world super-bantamweight titleholder Scott Quigg. Valdez fought through the pain of a broken jaw but still won conclusively.

Lopez, from Glendale, California is coming off the biggest win of his career. In May he stopped Puerto Rican prospect, Jean Carlos Rivera, in the 7th round in a vacant NABF super-featherweight title bout. His only loss was to then-unbeaten prospect and now IBO world super-bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton in December 2017. He lost by a close majority decision.

Lopez jumped at the chance when offered this opportunity by Top Rank so he will be doing everything he can to pull off the upset win and put himself in the position to challenge WBC champion Miguel Berchelt.

Fairy tales very rarely come true and Lopez is taking on one of the elite fighters in the super-featherweight division at the peak of his powers so don't expect miracles.

Prediction: Valdez to stop Lopez before the 8th round.
