WBC welterweight champion Shawn "Showtime" Porter proved what a tough and smart thinking fighter he is by taking Errol Spence Jr to the wire in a fight of the year candidate with Porter's WBC and Spence Jr's IBF welterweight titles on the line.

In the end, it was an 11th round knockdown that split to two in a fight that ebbed and flowed throughout with neither able to stamp their authority on the other. But it was Porter that proved the doubters wrong and showed that Spence Jr is not the dominant force in the division that many believed beforehand. He was hit and hurt to body and head by the two-time champion Porter and will now go into his next fight with questions to answer.

Champions have to come back from adversity and Spence showed tonight that he has that gift. Just when he was facing a close and questionable judges' decision, he pulled out a knockdown that swung the fight in his favour on two of the three scorecards. He also showed that the self-believe he talks about is still there when he is in the trenches and being hurt by an opponent that will not back down.

Now the mouth-watering prospect of a unification bout with Manny Pacquiao looms on the horizon and that fight might, just might, eclipse this one. Here's hoping!

Anthony Dirrell vs David Benavidez
Former WBC champion David Benavidez won back his old title with a 9th round stoppage of two-time holder Anthony "The Dog" Dirrell. At 22 years old Benavidez becomes a two-time holder of the WBC belt himself after being stripped of the title when he failed a drug test a year ago.

Dirrell was competitive early on but the size and youth advantages that Benavidez held became evident as the fight past the halfway mark. Dirrell was cut and taking a beating when his corner asked for the fight to be stopped.

Josesito Lopez vs John Molina Jr
In a fight that everyone knew would be full of action, Josesito Lopez forced John Molina Jr to take a knee in the 1st and 7th rounds before forcing referee Ray Corona to call a halt to proceedings at 2:21 mins of the 8th round.
