WBO super-bantamweight champion Emanuel Navarrete defends his title for the second time in just less than a month when he meets Filipino Juan Miguel Elorde on the Fury vs Wallin card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday 14th September. The fight will be shown on ESPN in the USA and BT Sports in the UK.

Navarette is keen to fight regularly but also against the best fighters in the division, not something that will be happening when he faces Elorde. California's Danny Roman holds the IBF and WBA belts, while Mexico's Rey Vargas has the WBC title, and Navarette is happy to face either. ESPN commentator Andre Ward asked the question "Would Navarette stay hungry now that he had gained some success and money after his win over Francisco De Vaca in August?" and said in response to his own question "That the manner of Navarette's win over the unbeaten De Vaca proved that he had indeed retained that drive and desire."

The 24-year-old Navarette from Mexico City scored an upset win over London based Ghanaian Isaac Dogboe to win the title on points in December 2018 and then went one better by stopping Dogboe in the 12th and final round of their return match in May just to prove that the first fight wasn't a fluke.

Emanuel Navarette vs Isaac Dogboe 2.
Emanuel Navarette defends his WBO super featherweight title against the man he won it from Isaac Dogboe.

The 32-year-old Juan Miguel Elorde of Paranaque City in the Philippines is said to be the Grandson on legendary Japanese super featherweight world champion Gabriel "Flash" Elorde. His career opposition does not appear to be of a very high standard. Having watched several of his fights on Youtube including his 2011 loss to Jerry Guevara in Las Vegas, what worries me is that the pace he fights at puts him at a big disadvantage against Navarette. He is a competent boxer but against top opposition, I think he could fall apart.

Prediction: Navarette to score a stoppage within the first 4 rounds.
