Promoter Frank Warren has made the announcement that unbeaten heavyweight prospects Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman will fight for the vacant British heavyweight title on July 13th at the O2 Arena in London.
As they say "Someone's 0 has got to go," but who will that be?
The betting favourite is almost surely going to be the big-hitting Londoner, Dubois, but Gorman brings an excellent boxing IQ and an array of skills that Daniel has yet to face as a professional.
This is the first domestic heavyweight bout to capture the boxing public's imagination since the December 2015 Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte matchup and look where those two are now.
It is always good to see talented prospects willing to face one another in these crossroads fights which usually leads to much bigger opportunities for the winner. Both have already beaten former world title challengers, so are on the fringes of the world's top 10, so a shot at either Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder may not be too far away for the victor.
The focus of world heavyweight boxing has very much shifted to the UK in recent times with first the Lennox Lewis era and now Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte all jostling for the top spot, you will be able to add the winner of the last man standing Gorman, Dubois and Joe Joyce round-robin to that illustrious group.
Maybe a few other promoters need to look at the bigger picture and make the fights that the public wishes to see, Dubois and Gorman will attract interest from all over the world such is its appeal.
