Danny Roman added TJ Doheny's IBF strap to his WBA version in an exciting, action-packed battle where both were hurt but able to recover to hear the final bell.
In a great fight for the viewing audience at ringside and on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports in the UK, Roman dropped the Australian in the second round with a left hook to the head, Doheny didn't seem hurt and went straight back on the offensive.
The action was back and forth with both fighters having success, but in the 7th round, Doheny seemed to hurt Roman with a body attack which appeared to persuade Roman that he needed to invest more shots to the body of his rival. This strategy really worked for California native Roman, who continued with his assault to Doheny's ribs until it paid dividends and the Aussie dropped to the canvas in the 11th round from a hard hook to the body.
The tough Irish born Australian kept battling all the way till the last bell in a fight that boxing fans would love to see again.
Afterwards, Roman said that he had great respect for TJ as a fighter and as a person and that TJ was a great fighter and champion. Likewise, Doheny had great respect for Danny Roman and congratulated him on a great win.
Roman called out Rey Vargas, the WBC champion in the hope that they would meet and unify the titles further.
