Eight months after his 2nd career defeat to Leeds's IBF Featherweight world champion Josh Warrington, Belfast's Carl "The Jackal" Frampton makes his return to the ring against Mexican journeyman Emmanuel Dominguez in a 12 round bout at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 10th.

Frampton toyed with the idea of retirement in the aftermath of the Warrington defeat but decided that he had too much left in the tank to leave the sport where he had tasted success as world champion at both Super-bantamweight and Featherweight.

Past victories over Nonito Donaire, Leo Santa Cruz, Scott Quigg, Kiko Martinez, and Steve Molitor, all men who have held world titles, makes Frampton at 32-years of age, a very experienced campaigner at the peak of his powers. As long as he hasn't lost the hunger and drive he possessed in his battles with the current WBA champion Santa Cruz then he is capable of winning another world crown.

Frampton's challenge to Warrington was a fight of the year candidate that kept fans glued to the action. The judge's scorecards of 113-116 and 112-116 twice were a fair reflection of the fight but for sheer effort and grit, a draw would have been the only fair result. Frampton rightly acknowledged Warrington as a deserving champion and no-one would mind seeing a return in the future.

Frampton and his promoter, Frank Warren's Queensbury Promotions announced in March that they had signed a deal with Bob Arums Top Rank group who along with ESPN will show the Irishman's fights across the United States. The goal for Frampton is to win a world Featherweight title before he hangs the gloves up for good.

The first step in Top Rank's plans is a match against Mexico's Emmanuel Dominguez in Philadelphia. UK fans saw Dominguez on their shores in March when he faced Jordan Gill for the vacant WBA International Featherweight title. Gill stopped the Mexican in the 3rd round, Dominguez has scored two low level wins since at home in Mexico.

With 8 losses and 2 draws on his 36 fight record, the 25-year-old Dominguez will do well to reach the halfway stage against Frampton

Prediction: Frampton to stop Dominguez inside 4 rounds.
