Fowler and Rose headline the latest JDNXTGEN show promoted by Matchroom Boxing and screened by Sky Sports Boxing in the UK and by DAZN in the USA. The show takes place at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool on Friday 2nd August and has some interesting bouts on the undercard including the Matchroom debut of quality heavyweight Martin Bakole and the second bout in the return of Lewis Ritson after his loss to Francesco Patera for the EBU Lightweight title in October 2018.

Rose was originally matched with the man that took Fowler's unbeaten record in his last outing, Scott Fitzgerald, however, due to injury, Fitzgerald was forced to pull out and Fowler jumped at the chance of re-igniting his career with a win over the experienced former world title challenger Rose. The fight is made at middleweight and is contested over 10 rounds with the WBO Intercontinental title at stake.

Anthony Fowler vs Brian Rose poster

Fowler looked like a champion in the making in his early pro fights. Having had a high profile and very successful amateur career as a middleweight, the move down to the 154lb Super-welterweight division as a professional seemed a good one. The Liverpudlian always looked so much bigger and stronger than his opponents and only one of his first 9 opponents lasted until the end of their 6 round bout until he met Fitzgerald.

In Rose, Fowler meets a man that has held the British Super-welterweight title and challenged for the WBO world title at the same weight against champion Demetrius Andrade.

Rose (31-5-1 8 Ko's) has vastly more experience in the professional code than Fowler having fought big-name opponents such as Andrade, Mathew Macklin, Carson Jones, Vivian Harris, and Joachim Alcine, as well as British title wins over Prince Arron, Max Maxwell, Kris Carslaw, and Sam Webb. Never known as a big puncher, the Blackpool native relies on solid boxing skills and a solid chin.

This is your classic crossroads fight, a young and hungry contender against the older man hoping for one more shot at the title. Boxing can be a cruel sport and there are very rarely any nostalgic endings for those trying to roll back the years. Fowler is the naturally bigger man with the bigger punch and I expect him to pull down the curtain on Rose's career with a stoppage in the last half of the fight.
