Former WBA world lightweight champion Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla takes his final bow as a professional boxer at the Manchester Arena on Saturday 2nd November when he faces Spanish based Peruvian Frank Urquiaga (13-1-1, 1 Ko) in a 10 rounder with the vacant WBA Continental Lightweight Title on the line.
Although Katie Taylor’s challenge to Christina Linardatou for her WBO female world super-lightweight title is the main event, the fans will turn out for Crolla who has given them some big nights, and some unexpected victories during his 13 years as a pro.
For Crolla, the night will be an emotional rollercoaster, he must first of all give his opponent 100% of his attention, all the while knowing that this fight is the end of a journey he started as a child.
The brutal knockout the Mancunian suffered against Vasiliy Lomachenko in Los Angeles in April is not the last memory Crolla’s army of faithful fans will want to have as his career ends. One last night in his hometown and a final ‘W’ on his record will send the 32-year-old off into a second career, hopefully in the sport he loves so dearly.
In Urquiaga they have chosen well. A non-puncher who only has one loss on his record. That loss was in a European title challenge against Finland’s Edis Tatli who went on to fight Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden in April. Urquiaga lost by unanimous decision but acquitted himself well.
Crolla will be up for this fight. He will want to end his career on a high note.
Prediction: Crolla to stop Urquiaga inside 6 rounds.
